A Highly important Regency Sterling Soup Toureen & Cover of Great Canadian Significance.
Made in London in 1810 -11 by Burwash & Sibley.
Presented to Baron Aylmer by his friend Lord Maude. Lord Aylmer served as a full General under Wellington, and who became the first Governor-General of Canada prior to Confederation.
Historical Note: Matthew Whitworth-Aylmer, 5th Baron Aylmer (1775–1850) was a British military officer and colonial administrator. After reaching the position of colonel in the British army he was, in 1830, appointed commander of British military forces in North America as well as Governor General of British North America and Lieutenant-Governor of Lower Canada.
